Anger Management

What is Anger Management? Being able to control emotions and manage anger safely can be difficult, especially when trauma is present. At Austin Trauma Therapy Center, we are Certified as Anger Resolution Therapist (CART) and have experience in Anger Replacement Therapy and treatment.

Being angry isn’t a bad thing. This is a normal human emotion to experience anger; however, it’s the control part that can be difficult for persons who have experienced a lack of safety or other traumas.

Anger is our response to what we have interpreted as a potential threat. Anger management is simply how we control that response, in a healthy way. Unhealthy ways to control or reduce anger often include substance use, which can lead to addiction. We can help with both (anger management and/or addiction).

Aggression Replacement Training

Additionally, Aggression Replacement Training (ART) is a cognitive behavioral intervention for the reduction of aggressive and violent behavior (anger management), originally focused on adolescents. It is a multimodal program that has three components: Social skills, Anger Control Training, and Moral Reasoning.
